SHRUTI MIYASHIRO AND BENSON PORTER APPOINTED TO CO-OP FINANCIAL SERVICES BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Each to Fill Remainder of Term of a Retiring Board Member
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (July 2, 2012) – Shruti Miyashiro of Orange County’s Credit Union and Benson Porter of BECU have joined the Board of Directors of CO-OP Financial Services to complete the terms of two retiring members.
Both Miyashiro and Porter were appointed by the Board, with Miyashiro replacing Rick Craig of America First Credit Union for a term extending to 2015; and Porter replacing Gary Oakland of BECU, whose term extends to 2014. Both new members took office effective July 1.
“Shruti and Benson are not only leaders of their credit unions, but leaders in our industry and will no doubt play valuable roles in the Board’s oversight of the best cooperative in our movement,” said Terry Laudick, Chairman, CO-OP Board of Directors. “The Board also wishes to thank Rick and Gary, who are both multi-term members of the Board, and we wish them well in their retirements.”
Miyashiro had previously served as Chair of CO-OP’s independent, six-member Audit Committee since April 2010. She is President/CEO of Orange County’s Credit Union of Santa Ana, Calif., a post she has held since 2007. She has also held the position of President/CEO at Pasadena (Calif.) Federal Credit Union. Miyashiro earned a Masters degree in business administration from the University of Redlands (Calif.)
Porter not only succeeds Oakland on the CO-OP Board, but also as President/CEO of BECU in Tukwila, Wash., a position he assumed in April 2012. He had previously served in the same capacity at First Tech Federal Credit Union in Palo Alto, Calif. Benson holds a law degree from Seattle University and an undergraduate degree in economics from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash.
